<description>EssenceInstallation from (5) Take my Hand - Held Meanings.
Hand-turned wood, glass, acrylic, dried botanicals, resins, seeds, oud wood shavings, and handmade oil blend.

(Below, you can find the correspondence between the jars and the names)

These materials were chosen carefully through my personal relationship with them. They do not share one fixed meaning, but carry layered histories and associations with protection, welcome, remembrance, and symbolic gestures of care. Several of these resins and woods have traditionally been burned so that their scent can move through a space, while flowers, seeds, leaves, and oils have been infused, carried, offered, or kept close.

Here, the materials remain unburned and are held inside hand-turned wooden vessels. Their aromas are quieter and ask for proximity. Each can be approached separately and at your own rhythm, allowing you to choose whether and how to encounter it.

There is no correct way to recognise or interpret these scents. I deliberately chose not to make their names available at first glance, so that the first encounter can happen through scent, memory, and association rather than identification. Some may feel familiar and others distant. They may awaken memories, associations, comfort, discomfort, or curiosity. Together, they form an almost invisible layer of the installation, moving beyond their vessels and meeting each person differently.

		<description>Bounds
Acrylic on unglazed ceramic. Installation from (5) Take my Hand - Held Meanings(Below, you can find the incantations translated into English if you are curious to read them.)
I began inventing my own alphabets as a child and teenager, as a way of protecting my thoughts from being read by people who might not treat them with care. In these bowls, I return to that private practice of protection, transforming it into an artistic and political language.
I made these incantation bowls with respect and love for the people who will inhabit the gallery space. During the project, I created an alphabet of protection through which the spells are written. The incantations are fully functional because their intention holds. They remain visible, but they are not immediately available to every gaze. Writing becomes pattern, boundary, and protective architecture. The alphabet holds space for privacy, opacity, and the right not to be fully legible, while the English translations offer another way of entering the work for those who choose to do so.
Incantation bowls are protective objects known especially from late antique Mesopotamia. Their interiors were often covered with spiralling texts intended to confront, bind, or contain harmful forces. Some were placed upside down near thresholds or around the boundaries of homes, creating forms of protection for the people living within them.
Rather than reconstructing historical examples, my practice enters into dialogue with their histories. Clay, inscription, intention, and the act of making come together in a spiral of affects and effects, turning the hollow of each vessel into a space where harm is brought to its limits, so that our needs and dreams for other realities can move outward into the room.Bowl 1, The Transphobia Monster &#38;amp; the Binary Evil Spirits&#60;img width="500" height="500" width_o="500" height_o="500" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/c20af18c0cb0928333d9a8495490bf03fd8a8e0675152086ac38baf21592e6d9/IMG_9607.jpg" data-mid="249760487" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/500/i/c20af18c0cb0928333d9a8495490bf03fd8a8e0675152086ac38baf21592e6d9/IMG_9607.jpg" /&#62;
Transphobia Monster and Binary Evil Spirits, Binary Wardens, Gatekeepers of Two, I name you as you move through language. As you move through silence, between rooms.I name your hunger, your tricks, your despair. I, by these lines, seize you here. You feast on fear of the ambiguous, on moral panic, on shame. You feed on cruelty masked as humour,
on control and power pretending to be care. You thrive when life is forced into either-or, when complexity is branded a threat. You dance to the clicking of locks on bodies, to
misnaming, to erasure. You flourish in violence, threats, and scapegoats, whispering behind our beds, Your hair is perfumed, yet it reeks of spite.Your breaths sharpen brutality, calling it nature, reason or faith. This room does not consent to you. This circle grants you no passage. Neither your authority is validated. Here, you
have been named. Your disguise is taken away. Read into this spiral. In this vessel you are held. Transphobia Monster and Binary Evil Spirits, your lies are contained. Border-makers,
Binary Wardens, Here you will remain. Your gates unhinge. Your cages forget their shape. Your locks unlearn your hands, your keys turn to sand, and your poison evaporates. Will you
not pass this threshold. Will you not leave this clay. May names remain in the hands of the named. May every person be spoken into safety, in their own true words. May dignity return
to the skin, and softness return to our naming. May self-definition be a right, and kinship grow untamed. May joy be the sound of the world. May our bodies be homes, not debates,
not weapons. May the room remember empathy. May the hearts remember ease. So it is kept. So it is sealed.

Bowl 2, The Extractor Fever
&#60;img width="500" height="500" width_o="500" height_o="500" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/c98ee6b71fe7310a5dbd72928059ac7465d509fac9f26398933a4278f44241fa/IMG_9612.jpg" data-mid="249760486" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/500/i/c98ee6b71fe7310a5dbd72928059ac7465d509fac9f26398933a4278f44241fa/IMG_9612.jpg" /&#62;Extractor Fever, devourer of hours, never-ending hunger, profit malady, I name you.I see you moving from hand to hand, from law to invoice, from field to market, from wound to word. I call you into this bowl. Out of the bodies, out of the souls, out of the river, out of the dreams, out of these walls. I call you into this bowl. Into this hollow. Here, you will keep spinning in your own . You who measure hours as gold, and turn gold into your teeth, you who call separation growth and living production. You who feed from others’ hands and leave them empty. You who sneak back for the gloves, then keep chewing: fingers, wrists, flesh, skin. You who grind the bone and call the powder profit. You who name and claim the ruins your shadow leaves. You who deny even the soil under our stepsor above our graves. Listen. You cannot return the hours. You cannot unbite the hand. You cannot ungrind the bone. You cannot unruin the land. You cannot make the waters forget. You cannot make the soil unsee. So bring repair. Let the hands be strong and free to play, to make, to feed. Let the backs you bent rest and be sheltered. Let the rivers keep their course. Let the sea dance and recover. Let the forests keep their breath. Let the deserts remain desert, not assets, not yoked, not waiting to be renamed. Let the soil have time for root, worm, seed, and fruit. Let the dead have their names and let their stories be sung. What cannot be returned must be repaired. What cannot be repaired must be witnessed. What has been witnessedmust not be taken again. Stay bound here, where the circle does not feed you. Stay named here where your teeth cannot multiply.
Bowl 3, Sorting Wind

&#60;img width="500" height="500" width_o="500" height_o="500" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/b52475b47058c279e512a07572a6072bd0dcb7304e050abcf045a0fdbcd54935/IMG_9609.jpg" data-mid="249760484" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/500/i/b52475b47058c279e512a07572a6072bd0dcb7304e050abcf045a0fdbcd54935/IMG_9609.jpg" /&#62;Sorting Wind, counterfeit weather, carrier of outrage, split-tongued current, I hear you. You enter through the smallest openings, through the unfinished sentence, through the silences, through glass ceilings and sliding doors. You lift one word and bury all the others.
You feed on humiliation. You blow suspicion between neighbours. You turn the familiar into a threat, the stranger into a warning, the wounded into rival wounds. You sort us into names too small to hold us. You draw a line through the room and whisper: Choose.
Condemn. Prove you are not the mistake. You call complexity betrayal. You call doubt weakness. You call listening surrender. You call the
unfamiliar an enemy. Sorting Wind, I call you down. Out of the mouth. Out of the screen. Out of the crowd. Out of the space between us.
Enter this bowl, where there is no sky for you to spread. Here your rumours lose their wings. Here the maps you carry lose their borders,
and their ink fades. Sorting wind, Spin here until every accusation falls back into question. Until differences remain differences, not weapons. Until anger remembers its source and refuses the nearest target. Until our struggles recognise one another without
becoming the same. Sorting Wind, you are confined here. May no one disappear for harmony. May no one be abandoned for not fitting a
shape that cannot hold them. May the room breathe together without becoming a single breath. So it is read. So it is sealed.

Bowl 4 - Numbing Fog
&#60;img width="500" height="500" width_o="500" height_o="500" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/5d50329ccf7fe7b252a86b88196600189b772077a95d82e91bdd2f7801b64316/IMG_9608.jpg" data-mid="249760485" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/500/i/5d50329ccf7fe7b252a86b88196600189b772077a95d82e91bdd2f7801b64316/IMG_9608.jpg" /&#62;Numbing Fog, grey spell, soft eater of feeling, I know your ways. You enter through endless images, through grief too large to bear,
through the voice that says nothing matters, don ́t try, you will fail. You blur faces into numbers, turning pain into a never-ending rain,
neighbours into distant echoes, burying our will in thick air. May hearts open again on their own terms. Because Numbing Fog,You will not dwell there. Come into this bowl. Thin here. Lose your hold. Settle here. Let feelings return without drowning. Let actions
return without saviourhood. Let boundaries guard tenderness. Let care move without burning. May the soul breathe. May the body
answer. May rest and response coexist. Let meaning return. Let energy follow. So it is held. So it is sealed

Bowl 5 - Paper-Teeth Spirit

You
turn people into files, a life into a case, a wound into evidence, a need into eligibility. You make paper heavier than bodies, only to bury them beneath it and forget them. Paper-Teeth Spirit, open your mouth. The cuts you made will no longer bleed. I pull your
teeth one by one. With each word, your bite is undone. Let this rim be your muzzle. Let this circle be your bin.Come into this bowl. Not
into the waiting room. Not into the home. Your stamps turn blank. Your boxes lose their walls. Your files release the names they
swallowed and erased. Stay in this vessel, where your rules only measure themselves. Paper-Teeth Spirit, you will remain here,
consuming your own pages in this bowl, here your ink cannot command, where your stamps carry no sentence. May systems answerfor the harm they cause. May doors open by life and justice, not by luck. Paper-Teeth Spirit, here your fangs disappear. So it is written. So
it is sealed.&#60;img width="50" height="40" width_o="50" height_o="40" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/6e81958b5845e9d02f136c2c2900135fc4d2fb2dd81196184f115084c8ff5e94/luna-creciente-copy.png" data-mid="249760990" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/50/i/6e81958b5845e9d02f136c2c2900135fc4d2fb2dd81196184f115084c8ff5e94/luna-creciente-copy.png" /&#62;Website Instagram: @villiakka

(5) Take My Hand is an evolving multisensory installation and artistic research touching on the old and persistent impulse to make and use symbols, objects, gestures and rituals invoking protection. Rooted in my intimate and inherited relationship with the Hamsa/Khamsa, the work has grown through relationships with other technologies of protection.

While the project considers protection as intimate and collective, material and spiritual, desired and contradictory, the works do not only reflect on protective practices; they are themselves attempts at protection.

The project approaches protection as relational, shaped through reciprocity, interdependence, care, gesture and attention, and by the ways bodies, objects, materials and places affect and are affected by one another. It asks how protective forms are inherited, carried, transformed, and reactivated, while leaving room for belief, doubt, and uncertainty, and for forms of relation whose effects cannot always be seen, measured, or explained.

The project was supported in 2025 with a one-year multidisciplinary artist’s grant from the Arts Promotion Centre Finland (Taike).&#60;img width="1536" height="2048" width_o="1536" height_o="2048" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/982afed920f95a8f76697c334a2e96803102abe8df5b612601de5cfd7df172a3/image.jpeg" data-mid="251361196" border="0" src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/982afed920f95a8f76697c334a2e96803102abe8df5b612601de5cfd7df172a3/image.jpeg" /&#62;Views of (5) Take My Hand in Held Meanings, Gallery Valve, Oulu, 2026.

The research around (5) Take My Hand began in 2024 through studio work, personal and family research, and a growing awareness of the interdependencies within my inherited relationship with the Hamsa/Khamsa and other protection technologies. During 2025, it expanded through material and sensory experimentation, conversations and both public and intimate encounters with others.

In 2026, the project continued to evolve through its iteration in Held Meanings at Gallery Valve in Oulu and through workshops and exchanges with visitors, bringing new questions about protection, reciprocity, memory, hope and interdependence into the work.

With gratitude to Catalysti ry for its support with the project’s public workshops, and to all those who have supported and accompanied me and the work throughout this time, whether physically close or far away.

To the memory of my father’s hands.

	Nuclear Care Constellation I - Be_ing Many

This tent exists on different levels —some of which I cannot explain as they are not mine— from a simple cover to a temple dedicated to intergenerational care but also an open, shifting archive of diasporas, supportive practices, a place for rest and refuge.
Life keeps poking every other day on my illusions of control, leaving me soft and tender to soak into a sweet surrender.
From there, I see a sky made of bedsheets, crossed by the daily movements of your needs and mine. A cotton sky, mute and perpetually host to our skin, fluids, and dreams. I cut a few meters of the sky, dyed it with our favourite tea, and sewed it back together so we could rest in it, look at it while it looked at us, and maybe heal a little, learn, or just be.
This care constellation is an intergenerational tangle both trapping and embracing me. Even though my location and roles have shifted, I have always existed in this endless yet transitional household. I have carried it with me, mounted and dismounted it many times, decorated it, tried to mend it, ran away from it, sung to it, and written poems from pain to rejoicing. It has given me space so I could have space for others.
It is a tent with all its sacred and mundane meanings, a place to become one while being many.
You are most welcome to enter too.

WAROOT"2020 Starts, and my first child is born, shortly after there is a general lock down, medium and high classes are able to work from home. Life happens on a screen. It is the golden age of streaming, from entertainment to seminars, lectures or discussions. I lost track of how many courses, meetings, conferences or workshops I was part of. Climate change, ableism, ageism, racism, sustainability, norm-criticality, indigenous rights, dreams, hopes, and fears, we were trying to learn and fight with our pyjama pants on (or underwear).A sentence was bouncing back and forth in my head. It became the ending of each online discussion: -We are running out of time.-

-This is so interesting people, unfortunately, “we are running out of time.- .. ... (meeting ended)
Maybe it is just my sense of humour but “Indeed we are”, my mind started replying.
 That was the seed."

	B o n e s

“B o n e s” was an initiation rite, a form of mental resurrection, an act of magic, a powerful warning, but also simply a reminder of the multifaceted human condition. “B o n e s” is rooted in one of the symbol-laden rituals still passed down to us through tales, crossing arbitrary boundaries, eras, and geographical locations. However, the act becomes just as deeply personal work as it connects and partly reveals personal experiences related to family, death, love, magic, trust, loyalty, and betrayal.

Each image had assigned a number corresponding to a fragment of text from a tale, song or poem realised during the project. Examples of text below:
(8) - “Incubation has a particular sound, as it has growth or intuition. As a river, we float in and maintain us elastic, changeable, alive.(4) - You are not lost if you still can hear the river. You need to be lost to learn to find the river”“In spring one was chosen, I remember the pink and purple ribbons dancing in the warm air and the sounds of the horns against the branches, they left offerings under the cherry trees. I was stepping closer when my mother pulled my arm and said: Things are not what they look like”(7) - “
Every creature has a predator. -I love you so much. I could eat you up.

Penas y dolores was a ritual aimed at washing away people's pains and sorrows, disguised as a durational participatory performance.

The ritual is conducted through singing, work, fire, water, ashes, and various organic offerings, including plants, paper, and bones, as well as our pains and sorrows.

The action was embedded in the Maagillinen Teatteri festival by utilising their available materials and locations.
